Yes, unfortunately, many users don’t seem to take it seriously. I can totally relate to your experience.
Fortunately, there are other reliable platforms out there like conversationexchange.com. Have you tried it? I’ve found several language partners there, and we have even become good friends.

I cancelled after the 7 day trial. Lots of hits the first few days most of who didn’t respond when I answered. Those with the cursory “Hi!” were almost always a bust. I think they were fakes. I got three good leads in one week one of whom dropped off after the 7 day trial and another who seemingly lost interest. Couldn’t recommend it. Laura

Lol but it's true! When I use it, I feel as if I were using Tinder. Not that Tinder is bad, but there are plenty of apps out there to find "love" or whatever it is you're looking for. I wish those people would leave Tandem and other language apps alone.

The struggle is real. As you mentioned, Tandem is good in principle, but in practice, it needs a redo. Those of us who want to learn a language but are not interested in dating have a hard time finding language partners. I hope they fix it soon. Thanks for commenting.

I laughed when you said it's the Tinder of language apps. After reading through the article I have established that it sounds like an exciting way to learn a language.

Being on a site with an active community is very helpful, what more when learning or perfecting a language. It makes for an easy paced relaxed learning environment. Thanks for highlighting the cons and pros of this app, I think I'd love to give it a try. The pro version isn't costly at all should one decide to upgrade which is another positive.

The tandem app, in principle, is a good place to learn languages. It is no equitable that men have a harder time finding someone, but it is what it is. If I want a dating site, I'll go to a dating site. I'd make it clear to people what I want out of this. I could stand to learn a language. I'd like to find a friendly person, but I guess you can sift through that yourself on the app. I am using a laptop computer, so I wouldn't be able to use this app. The company is losing out not catering to people like me, as well as me losing out. Good post, I would recommend it to others.
