Hey, Danny,

Give it a try! There are many teachers to choose from. If you're serious about learning a language, studying with a teacher helps a lot.

Thanks for commenting.

A truly honest and insightful article around the iTalki application/service.

Personally I have never previously looked into using this service as a way to learn a new language but after reading this detailed review I would certainly be putting this close to the top of my list. I would really love to learn Italian at one stage in my life and this could well be the way I choose to learn. The overall score granted is impressive and will definitely prompt a closer look from myself and many others who read your article.

Thanks again.

Hi, Line,

I know what you mean. It's better to study with native speakers of your target language in most cases. That's a fact

Did you continue studying Italian?

Yes, the pricing is somewhat complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze.

Why don't you try italki to find an Italian teacher? You might have better luck this time.

Thanks for commenting.

Thank you for this great review of Italki. I have been learning Italian and when I started originally, I did an online course where it turned out that the teacher was not native Italian, but had only lived in Italy for 2 years. Certain words and indeed the pronunciation, was not actually correct, so I do think it is important to have a native speaker as a teacher.

The Italki pricing structure does seem complicated, but if one has the opportunity to try out 3 teachers, then pricing can hopefully be discussed with them. I will look at them to improve my conversational Italian.

In reply to Favorme.

Hi, Favorme,

Yes, italki has grown a lot in recent years. As you pointed out, some languages have become quite popular these days. In multicultural countries like the U.S., they're not only useful but necessary.

You brought up a couple of interesting points. To answer your first question, I must say iTalki does not provide any official certificates or diplomas if that's what you mean. You can prepare for a test like TESOL, TOEFL, or DELF depending on your target language and then get certified through another institution, but that would be outside of iTalki. So, no there are no graduation periods.

It's hard to say how long it takes to learn a language. We all learn differently. Some people learn faster than others. It depends on many factors such as their learning capability and how much time they dedicate to their learning. Having said that, I would say six months to one year is a reasonable time to learn a language.

Thanks for commenting. Feel free to check out my other articles for more info and tips on the French language.

Hi, Melinda,

Absolutely! italki allows you to filter teachers by their native language. That's one of the things I love about this platform.

And I totally agree with you. Accents are difficult if not impossible to eliminate, but that's the beauty of languages.

Thanks for commenting.

Enrique, this is quite an excellent review you have done about Atalki. I will concur with you that it is worth giving a shot.

You beautifully lectured or presented the history, the services, fees, and the pros and cons of this great program.

Language as we know is a barrier. These days, so many people have picked up interest in learning Spanish, as it is getting popularity in America, and other parts of the world, likewise the French language. So there is a great need for learning other languages like the 2 I cited. With this review on Atalki programs and the condition of service, which is very friendly and flexible, I believe that the company will be waxing stronger by the day. However, my only question is do they have graduation periods, or does it depend on the learner how committed and how long it takes to learn any particular language? And one person sign up for 2 different languages?

Thanks for sharing.

Favorme.

Is there a way to request a native speaker on Italki? I know that sometimes you may wind up with a funny accent if you learn from someone from a certain location. Even with native English speakers, if you speak with someone from England they sound very different from someone from Australia. I have been teaching ESOL and working with my students on their accents. It can be difficult to learn.
