When learning a new language the old way of reading books might be the better option than an audio version. I personally like to read everything I learn from books, so am glad I found your review of books to help me learn French. I appreciate you taking the time to recommend the best books for learning French.

Hi, Gail,

I always compare learning French to dieting and working out. When you feel like giving up, remember why you started in the first place. It's also important to set realistic goals. Otherwise, we will easily give up. Last but not least, we have to understand that as long as we do something to learn, we will progress in our learning process. We don't have to study for hours every day. Keep it simple, 20 or 30 minutes is good. If you have more time, then go for it, but don't be too hard on yourself.

Thanks for your suggestions of French books. I love French and I am learning it through Duolingo which I find easy to use but a little repetitive at times. However, what is great about it is the fact that I have done a little bit every day for nearly a year now and I really feel that my French is improving. I agree that you need a lot of vocabulary when you start learning so saturation is a good point. I think that any book will only be good if you use it, so what tips do you have for keeping your motivation?

French, English, and Spanish are fun and have a lot of resources. Other languages are kind of limited, but you can give them a shot.

Thanks for such a great review. I have always wanted to learn a language and this seems like something that will really help me. I will be joining for sure so thanks for a great review. What is a language your recommend learning out of the ones mentioned? Just so I know which one be fun to join very well.

Exactly! They tweak the videos by adding captions/subtitles, flashcards, and quizzes. And yes, it's somewhat pricey, but it's definitely worth a try.

I think this app can help you tremendously.

They do accept PayPal for the free trial or monthly/yearly payments. Just make sure to cancel before the trial is over in case you don't want to use it anymore.

This FluentU review in informative and make it sound like an interesting language program to use. Their method of video learning feature is relatively new to me. However, I am trying to understand the process. To make sure I understand, they take YouTube videos and convert them into interactive lessons and you pay to use the finished product? This program appears a bit pricy at $30 per month.

Hi Enrique, FluentU looks powerful. I have been studying Japanese very hard for the last month due to work requirements, so I am very interested in this app that can learn japanese by watching videos.

I would like to apply for a free trial, but unfortunately I don't have any credit cards, but only a paypal account.
