Yes, the media. That and what other people say can be misleading. If we haven't visited France or had contact with French people, we can easily be led to believe what we hear about them.

That must be a cool job! Meeting new people and getting to know other cultures is an enriching experience.

I get what you mean. We've all had different experiences. What matters is that we learn from them.

I remember when I went to Quebec. That was when I was starting out in French. I tried to speak to them in French, but 90% of them replied in English lol. It was discouraging, to say the least. Fortunately, it's a whole different story now.

Of this list you have here, I too have had two different stereotypical views of the French. First is that they are romantics. In fact, I used to think that their men can be the most hopeless romantics of all but now I think differently in that light. I also thought that they were great smokers too as some media makes us believe. Well I guess that's just all wrong about them.

Oh, what a great article! I found it funny at first because I relate to it.

Working on the cruise ships for many many years, I've heard so many stereotypes about every single nation.

What you wrote about the question in French vs answer in English, I have a whole different experience. Once I had a long layover in Paris and decided to leave the airport and see the city. I was so excited about that. People at the airport guiding me to the nearest exit, police, and everyone was so nice. People in the downtown area were great, kind, speaking in English :)

Then I came back to the airport and experienced the whole rude, unnecessary drama in French which I didn't understand even one possible word.

They didn't want to speak in English but spoke to me in French.

I still don't think it should be generalized, but there is something in French people. I like them anyway :)

And I love French language :)
